WHO ARE WE?
The intention of the Cecil County Farm Museum & Regional Agricultural Center (CCFMRAC) is to serve as a Regional Agricultural Center for the tri-county area of Cecil, Kent and Queen Anne’s. We envision the CCFMRAC as an Educational Center to showcase both our local and regional agricultural heritage. CCFMRAC’s targeted, community involvement, includes people of all ages…elementary thru senior citizens. CCFMRAC does sponsor several agricultural events each year as well as performing educational seminars and demonstrations. We have a presence at the Cecil County Fair each year, and each Fall we host our largest event…our Heritage Day/Apple-Butter Festival. Other CCFMRAC sponsored events include Tractor Pulls, Plow Days and a Vintage Day. In January, 2018, we formed a working partnership with the Cecil County School of Technology (CCST). In 2019, the CCFMRAC, along with the Cecil County Public School System (CCPS), agreed to work together to develop a joint Ag Curriculum for elementary student field trips. This has presented the CCFMRAC with a unique opportunity of collaborating with the the CCPS and CCST administration, instructors, and their many student programs, which would be vital to perpetuating the CCFMRAC. The CCFMRAC has also partnered with our local 4-H clubs through our Cecil County Extension office. We are now jointly developing opportunities to share their current “AGsploration” curriculum.
The main demographics impacted by the development of a Museum and Regional Agricultural Center are:
Students ages 8-18 within Cecil private and public schools
4H clubs, ages 5-18
16-18-year-old school students, enrolled in Ag Science and Natural Resources classes, and other Technology programs.
The CCFMRAC site is two miles off of the I-95 corridor, on the same property as the CCST (820 Appleton Road), just north of Elkton, Maryland. Historically, this entire property was once part of a 1600’s William Penn Land Grant of 30,000 acres, known as the “Welsh Tract”.
